General questions about this Unique Gift Title
Can I really use my Laird of Jura title for anything and in any situation?
You can use your title at any time except of course for any illegal purpose such as to commit any illegal act such as fraud or to obtain monies by deception. back to top
How legal is this?
The legalities of Scottish Law are, we believe and supported by legal counsel, clear that
land ownership allows use of the term Laird. All the land sale and transfer
documentation have also been drawn up a Scottish Solicitor to ensure it
meets with Scottish Law 100%. back to top
Is the offer only available to people of Scots descent?
Although I am a Scot by birth anyone can participate in our project Scottish ancestry
is not required. There are already a number of similar plot owners from the USA, Canada, Africa, Japan, South America, Australia and almost every country in Europe. back to top
Your Unique Gift Title of Laird and Lady of Jura
Will I really be a Laird?
Yes you will be! Each plot of land gives the owner the legal right
to bear the title "Laird". With each plot purchased the laird (owner of Scottish land) receives a handsome title certificate together with location details. Suitably framed, that land title deed (which under Scots law and custom allows the owner usage of the tile "Laird") makes a most impressive wall or office desk display. It makes a unique gift for anyone interested in Scotland and its history and is sure to find pride of place in their home or office. back to top
What Title does a Female have?
The title "Laird" in Scotland means "an owner of land". It can be therefore apply equally to both men and women. However by custom over centuries a female Laird is usually called Lady. back to top
Will the Laird title be shown in my Passport/Driving License?
We cannot guarantee that this will be done. The title Laird is a recognized title all over the world however one cannot officially register the title as it is not a component part of the name. The UK passport currently has no space where your new title would normally be shown however we know routes whereby you can officially have the Laird or Lady title included in the passport when you are next renewing it. The same method can be used for your UK Driving Licence. Individual bank managers would need to consulted for changes to your bank credit cards etc.
The best way to find out if the title can be officially registered in your own country is to just try it and see what happens. back to top
Is the title inheritable?
Yes! The land and title, as well as the all the rights of use, are
fully inheritable and remains in the possession of your family. back to top
Does the Laird become a member of the British Royal Family or Aristocracy?
No. Definitely not! The title Laird means landowner and is acquired through the purchase of land in certain parts of Scotland. The titles of the aristocracy can no longer be bought. They are awarded by the state. You do not receive a seat in the House of Lords (Parliament). Those titles have usually been awarded by the Royal Monarch in the past to individuals or a family member in previous generations. back to top
Ownership of the Laird's or Lady's Estate
Do I really get to own the land on the Isle of Jura?
Yes, the offer is completely genuine and entirely legal. You will have full legal ownership of the land, confirmed by your title document to be issued in due course. The documents have all been drawn up by a Scottish Lawyer to ensure they fully comply with Scottish law. back to top
Do I need to register my land at the Land Commission?
You do not need to get involved in any legal registration as we have taken care of all the legal paperwork needed in the purchase of this land. Apart from that the Land Commission deals only with land in England and Wales — it does not cover land in Scotland. back to top
What other costs are involved? Will I have to pay any legal fees?
There are no further costs involved. Unlike our southern neighbours in England there is no land taxes in Scotland so you will not have to pay any additional legal costs or similar charges. Once you have paid for the land you own the land for all time without (under current or any proposed legislation) any further charges. back to top
What about taxes on the land?
There are no other taxes to be paid on the land. All taxes are included
in the prices quoted. back to top
Can I visit the Isle of Jura and see my land?
Yes, you will receive in our 48 page Laird's handbook full access information on the location of the land plots and you are always welcome to visit or view your land. Furthermore we even send you a discount accommodation voucher to use at the Jura Hotel whilst doing so. We are proud of our connection with the Isle of Jura and want you to see how wonderful it is. However we do ask that you do not try to get close to the deer during their rutting season so they can breed in peace. The estate has its own car parking area for your convenience. back to top
How many plots of land can I buy?
You can buy as many as you want for yourself or
to give as gifts to other people (subject to land availability of course). back to top
Can I purchase several plots that are next to each other?
Yes all the plots of land you purchase at the same time will be next to each other. however any plots you purchase at a later stage may be some distance away.
If you think you will need more plots of land at a later stage that you want to be close to each other simply order as many as you will need at this stage and make a note to ask us to keep back certificates of ownership until you can advise of the full details. For example you may be buying plots for a family which includes a yet to be born child when you know his or her name simply let us know and we can then issue the appropriate title certificate of ownership. back to top
If I buy enough land can I build on it?
No. Naturally the land does belong to you and no one can quarrel with you about that but the land is to be left in its natural state for the local wildlife and other visitors. However we do not have any objection to you bringing a small tent and staying on your land for a few days please ensure you clear up after yourself and respect the views of other Lairds and Ladies who may be visiting their Scottish Estate at the same time. back to top
Can I leave this land to anyone?
Your land and title can be left to anybody through your will upon your death or even sold to someone else if you wish to sell the land, after all, it is yours. There are two covenants on the land. One prevents shooting of wildlife and the second prevents the estate from being subdivided into smaller sections. back to top

I am ordering this unique gift idea as a surprise gift for my wife but I do not want her to guess the content of the package before I give it to her. How does it come packaged?
All our packages are carefully packed to prevent any damage in the postal system. The 48 page book, title Certificate and personalized letter of Introduction is placed inside a strong hardback envelope to prevent it being bent by the post office workers. This is then placed inside a smart gray plastic non-see through plastic envelope to keep it dry (we even get rain in Scotland). Where we are required to to do so we use a person's name and a street address so it can be returned to us. There is no label bearing bearing any company name or advertisement on the outside of the package to give any clue as to its contents.
I want the Certificate to have a special date on it. Will you still send it out straight away?
Yes, we will always try to ensure the certificate is posted with 2 working days of being received. Please note although we can forward date the legal land ownership certificate we are not able to legally backdate this documentation prior to date of order being placed although we try to be helpful where possible. back to top
I am ordering one of your Unique Gift Packs for my girlfriend. Will I be able to have the name changed on the certificate when we get married next year?
Firstly congratulations on your forthcoming marriage. Of course we will be happy to issue a new certificate to you at that time. We keep a database of all sales of the land so you can simply notify us at the time of marriage of the plot numbers along with the current and new name and we will send the certificate at that time. We currently do not charge for any administration when issuing new certificates as our gift to you both on marriage.
Have you considered buying one of the joint Lord and Lady certificates which would show both names (your name and your fiancee's name) on the same title certificate? This would show your joint ownership in common and be a nice romantic gift to give her.
Do I get a "Personalized Coat of Arms" with this title?
It does not include a coat of arms but there is nothing to stop you later designing one or getting an official body to design and register one for you. We can even suggest people who can research your family name and history to discover one that you may already be entitled to wear or alternatively design one from scratch specifically for you. back to top
Does this make me a Member of the Royal Family or British Aristocracy?
As stated above you do not become a true member of the Scottish aristocracy. Whenever those titles become available and that would be very rare they will usually sell by auction at between quarter a million and a million pounds sterling. (325,000 - 1,400,000 US dollars). You do however have the right as an owner of Scottish land to call yourself a Laird at a relatively low cost. back to top
